I am Standing Up in My Heart!
A Mini-Story about Tamil Nationalists in Tamil Nadu, South India
TAMIL TRIBUNE, February 2012 (ID. 2012-02-02)
Here is a mini-story (slightly modified version of a story I heard a few years ago). A busy mother walks into the room and sees her young son and stepson fighting. As punishment, she asks the stepson to sit on a chair in a corner of the room for 10 minutes. The boy obediently sits on the chair. Then mutters to her, "You know, I may be sitting on the outside but I am standing on the inside (in his heart)".
Will the Indian government allow freedom of speech when it comes to independence? Will it allow Tamil nationalists to contest elections and prove their strength? Will the Indian government allow a plebiscite on Tamil Nadu independence (in the same way Canada allowed one in Quebec Province in 1980 and Indonesia in East Timor in 1999)? [Reference 1]
