TMC - Tamil Maanila Congress
Recently (January 1999) Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) President G. K. Moopanar said that his party would work in the spirit of Tamil, Tamil people and Tamil Nadu and win.
Tamil Maanila Congress and its leaders are not fit even to utter the word "Tamil" because this is out and out an anti-Tamil party. TMC and its other founders belonged to the Hindian-dominated Congress Party which was instrumental in imposing Hindi on Tamil. Neither Moopanar nor the other TMC leaders opposed it within or outside the Congress Party. (Hindian - People whose mother tongue is Hindi.)
In spite of the word "Tamil" in its name, this party and its leaders were and are faithful servants of Hindi politicians. They split from the Hindian-dominant Congress Party because of Moopanar's quarrel with party leaders over its alliance with Jayalalitha's AIADMK and not because of any policy differences about Hindi imposition or Hindi domination in radio-television. Neither was it because of differences with the Congress Party over the Congress government's (Indian central government's) step motherly treatment of Tamil Nadu when it came to industrial development projects and fiscal grants. In fact Moopanar and other TMC founders have never opposed Hindi imposition, instead they were all for Hindi as the official language of India. They never criticized Indian government's step motherly treatment of Tamil Nadu when the Congress Party was ruling India all those many years.
Did Moopanar see the light and is mending his ways vis-a-vis Tamil. No. He sees Tamil patriotism and Tamil pride amongst the people of Tamil Nadu and is jumping into the Tamil bandwagon in the hope of cashing in some votes in the next election. Tamil people should recognize the true colors of Moopanar and TMC, and defeat them in the next election. DMK, AIADMK, PMK and MDMK have all their roots in Tamil soil; in spite of the fact that TMC is exclusively a Tamil Nadu party, its heart and soul are not rooted in Tamil Nadu. If a suitable offer is made to Moopanar he will immediately merge TMC with the Hindian-dominated Congress Party and continue as its faithful servant. The offer is of course a top level position and influence in the Congress Party and that offer has not come yet.
We are happy to hear Moopanar talking about Tamil, Tamil people and Tamilnadu, not because we believe him, but because it shows the ebb of Tamil patriotism and Tamil pride in Tamil Nadu and that even anti-Tamil politicians like Moopanar are recognizing it.
